This explains what Elemental Fracture (“we,” “us,” “our”) collects when you use our Services (the game servers, launcher, account system, website, Discord bot “Marla,” and modding toolkit), why, and the control you have over it.
We’re a non-commercial, volunteer-run preservation community. We are not an advertising company, we don’t sell data, and we don’t run analytics, tracking, or crash-reporting SDKs. We collect the minimum needed to run the game and the community. Third-party services we build on (Discord, our donation platform, our email provider, our hosting/CDN) have their own policies.
The short version: Your data is yours. It always will be. We collect only what we need, we never sell it, and you can see it or have it deleted at any time by emailing [email protected] or opening a ticket in our Discord.
You register with a username, email, and password, verified by a one-time code sent to your email, from the website or straight from the launcher. We store your username (which is unique and is your public “Spellbreak ID”), your email (to verify your account, reset your password, and send account-critical notices, not marketing unless you opt in), your password as a salted hash (never plain text; staff can’t read it), short-lived verification codes, the date created, a session credential, your chosen avatar, and role flags (staff/dev/tester).
Linking Discord (optional). You can connect a Discord account to your Elemental Fracture account. If you do, we store your Discord user ID, username, and avatar reference, and we read your roles in our Discord server to reflect community badges (staff/dev/tester) on your account. You can unlink at any time, which removes those Discord details. Members who prefer Discord can also register through our bot, “Marla,” with /register.
For members of our Discord, the bot stores your Discord ID and current name/nickname, a history of past names you’ve used, your account-creation and join dates, your preferred language, moderation records (warnings with reason and issuer, and flags like “watched,” “restricted,” “verified”), support-ticket metadata, and participation flags like beta enrollment. For safety, the bot also logs the content of edited and deleted messages (and some staff actions) to a private staff-only channel. That logging is for moderation only; we don’t build profiles from it.
To run matchmaking and the social layer, we store your friends and party data (by account ID), live presence (online/in-game, not kept as history), match and combat stats per match (kills, downs, exiles, damage dealt/taken, class, rune, placement, team, result, whether you left early), skill ratings (MMR) per mode, and a “recent players” list of people you shared a match with over roughly the last 7 days.
ef-launcher/<version>). No ad identifiers or tracking beacons. When moderation is needed, we may keep ban records (the account, reason, who issued it, timestamps, and where necessary an associated IP or device identifier) and related records (usernames, past aliases, connection IPs, ban history) so staff can enforce bans and correlate accounts used to evade them. This “sentinel” tracking is account-native: bans and flags attach to your Elemental Fracture account, and staff can act by username, Spellbreak ID, email, or account ID (no Discord required). This is visible only to staff and used only for safety and anti-cheat.
Our servers keep operational logs (IPs, usernames, account IDs, connection times, auth outcomes, short token prefixes) for a limited window to keep things running and investigate abuse. The launcher and mods write local logs on your own computer; in verbose mode those can include your username and a short token preview. They stay on your machine. Our website and launcher use a little local storage for functional things like your theme and language, never advertising or cross-site tracking.
Only to: run and secure the game, verify accounts, matchmake, power friends/parties/presence/stats, operate Discord and support, moderate and prevent cheating, keep the Services healthy, and send account-critical messages (like verification codes). Never for advertising, marketing profiles, or sale.
By design, your in-game username / Spellbreak ID is visible to other players in-game, on scoreboards, and in friends, party, and “recent players” lists, and friends can see your presence. Because “recent players” is mutual, people you recently played with may see your name in theirs. Your token, password, email, Discord linkage, moderation records, and IP are not shown to other players.
We don’t sell your data and we don’t share it with advertisers. We disclose it only to: the service providers that run the project (Discord, our donation platform, our email provider, our hosting/CDN), other players as described above, and where we believe in good faith it’s necessary to comply with the law or protect people. If the project’s stewardship ever changes hands within the community, account data may pass to the successor stewards under this same policy.
Account, social, and stats data last as long as your account exists. Verification codes are short-lived. Moderation and ban records are kept as long as needed to keep the community safe and prevent evasion. Temporary/debug accounts are auto-purged. Server logs rotate and are overwritten on a limited window. Presence and in-memory data last only for your session. Local logs and launcher settings stay on your computer until you delete them.
Your data belongs to you, it always will, and you can access or delete it at any time. You can:
We don’t sell or “share” your personal information, so there’s nothing to opt out of, but we affirm the right. We won’t treat you differently for exercising any of this.
Two honest limits: we may keep certain moderation or ban records even after deletion to prevent evasion, and content that’s inherently shared (a message you sent, or your appearance in someone else’s recorded match) may persist in those shared places. We delete what we reasonably can.
We keep secrets out of source control, restrict sensitive data and moderation tools to staff, sign authentication tokens, use encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS), and store passwords only as salted hashes. No system is perfectly secure, though, so protect your token and password, and rotate or change them if they might be exposed.
The Services aren’t directed to children under 13, and you must meet Discord’s minimum age (at least 13, or older where required) to take part. We don’t knowingly collect data from children under 13; if you believe we have, contact us and we’ll delete it.
We’re run by volunteers, and our infrastructure is hosted in more than one country (including the United States and, for some services, the EU). Using the Services means your information may be processed in a country other than your own. We apply this policy to everyone.
For any privacy question, or to access or delete your data: email [email protected] or open a ticket in our Discord (https://dsc.gg/elefrac). We may take reasonable steps to verify who you are before acting on a request.
We may update this policy as the project evolves; we’ll change the date above and announce material changes. Continued use means you accept the current version.
We keep this project running because we care about it, and that includes caring about the people in it. If you ever want to know exactly what we hold about you, just ask.
